Outdoor Research Ear Band

Wearing an ear band doesn't attract the opposite sex, but it will keep your ears warm and prevent them from aching. I have wind- and cold-sensitive ears, and even cool temperatures (50 to 70 degrees) can make my ears ache, especially if there is a light breeze. In cooler temperatures, wearing a hat that covers the ears is may be too warm, and that is where the ear band comes in handy. An ear band can protect your ears, while at the same time allowing your head to breath, preventing overheating.

I have tried many different ear bands over the years, and finally discovered Outdoor Research's Ear Band. It has all the features of a world class ear band. Here's why I like it:

  • It is made of Gore WindStopper Fleece, which makes it windproof. I have tried non-windproof fleece before, and it doesn't protect my ears well enough. This ear band protects against the worst wind, and my ears don't ache any more.

  • In addition, the WindStopper Fleece breaths well, so you don't have to worry about building up a sweat under the ear band.

  • The ear band is available in three different sizes, and each size is adjustable using Velcro. This means that the ear band will fit just about any head, even a fat head like mine.

  • The ear band is curved so that it will easily cover the smallest, or biggest of ears. The ear band fits very well and is comfortable. In fact, you may forget that you are even wearing it.

  • If you like, you can wear the ear band with another hat, such as a rain hat. This way, your ears will be warm, and your head will keep dry.

The Outdoor Research Ear Band is very small and lightweight, which means that you don't ever again have any excuse not to have warm ears.

Using the Outdoor Research Ear Band in the Real World

I have been using the Outdoor Research ear band for over six months, and have used it in many different situations, but mostly in cooler temperatures where a full hat is too much, but you still need ear protection.

I also often wear a waterproof hat with it when it is wet outside, or sometimes with the hood of a waterproof shell. Sometimes when it is pouring, and you need a waterproof shell, but the shell's hood is just not warm enough to protect your ears, the ear band will warm your ears without causing overheating inside the shell hood.

Recommendation

What can I say? If you have sensitive ears, then check out this world class ear band.

Product Notes

The Outdoor Research Ear Band is available in three sizes and five colors. The suggested retail price is $17.00. Outdoor Research also makes three other ear bands, so if this model is not perfect for you, then perhaps one of the other three will be.
