Ex Officio Explorer Pants

I like clothing that can be used for many different uses. That way, I get my money's worth out of them. One of the most versatile pants I have run across are the Explorer Pants from Ex Officio.

Other than for fancy occasions, or cold weather, the Explorer Pants can be worn just about anytime and anywhere. Here's what makes these pants world class:

  • The Explorer Pants are made of a very lightweight, 100% nylon fabric with Teflon coating. The texture of the surface is similar to peach fuzz, and is very soft. This combination results in pants that are lightweight and very packable, breathable, moisture-wicking, fast-drying, stain-resistant, and wrinkle-resistant.

  • For sunny weather, the pants provide UPF +30 protection, to keep your legs well protected.

  • The pants are good-looking, well-designed, and durably constructed. The fit is loose and comfortable, but not baggy.

  • The pants have a partial elastic waistband and belt loops for your own belt.

  • The pants have two front pockets (the right pocket has an inner pocket with a Velcro closure), a cargo pocket on the front left leg that has a zipper closure (and a hidden inner pocket under the cargo pocket) and flap, and two rear pockets. The left rear pocket has a Velcro closure, and the right pocket has a zipper closure.

  • The pants only weight about 9 ounces.

The Explorer pants are will suited for: traveling, walking, hiking, backpacking, trekking, around town, and for work.

Using the Explorer Pants in the Real World

In cooler weather, the Explorer Pants can be worn with a base layer for extra warmth, perhaps down to about 30 degrees or so.

In warmer temps, the pants do a good job of moving moisture off your skin so that it can quickly evaporate, helping to keep you cool. They are comfortable up to about 90 degrees or so, although, if practical, I wear shorts when the temps break 70 degrees. You can wear them if the temps are above 90 degrees, but like any pant in very hot weather, they will be warmer than shorts.

You can easily wear the pants multiple days without having to wash them, and odor build-up is not an issue. When traveling, the pants are easy to wash and let hang dry.

Recommendation

If you are looking for a versatile, warm-weather pair of pants, then you will want to consider the Explorer pants.

Product Notes

Explorer pants are available for both men and women in a variety of sizes (waist and inseam) and colors. They can also be purchased in a convertible version (pants can be converted into shorts), and in a shorts version. The MSRP is $60.00. Explorer pants can be washed and dried in your washer and dryer.
